Laura Kostur

Born and raised in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, Laura Kostur finds inspiration from her surroundings and the wide variety of people drawn to the West Coast.

Laura’s love of people and words led her to seek education in both.  In 2000, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, the study of people and society.  Several years later her love of words led Laura back to the classroom to pursue a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Communications with a focus in publishing.

Now employed in Communications with the Federal Government of Canada, Laura finds enjoyment in a job that allows her to write and edit every day, while interacting with a wide variety of people, and being of service to the public.

When not at work, or working on her next novel, Laura can be found cutting and thrusting her way through classes at Academie Duello, a school of European Swordplay and Western Martial Arts.

Laura currently works, fights and writes in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she lives with her husband.

  2. Hey Laura – I just read your comment on The Bloggess today and couldn’t find a way to reply to a specific comment on there so I hopped over to your blog. Feel free to delete this comment, I just wanted a way to communicate with you! I had the exact same experience about 15 years ago, although I was at my own house at the time. Exact same sensation of an evil presence, I sensed it at the foot of my bed, kind of on the bed, watching me, looming, and I couldn’t move or make a sound, I was completely paralyzed… It was the most terrifying moment of my life!

    • Thanks for letting me know.

It’s nice (and horrible) to know I’m not the only one. I’ve been trying to convince myself it didn’t happen ever since. I don’t know if I could sleep in my own house again if that happened at home… I’m glad you still seem to be doing well 15 years later. 🙂

Blog comments are a great way to reach me. (I don’t always publish them, but I read them all). You can feel free to contact me on twitter @LauraKostur as well.

For anyone else who wants the details this was in reply to my post on The Bloggess when she asked for scariest moments stories. http://thebloggess.com/2013/10/halloween-a-bit-early/#comments

      “My scariest moment?

I was staying in the priest’s quarters in a seminary turned convention centre. It’s a beautiful building built in 1852. The building are charming brick and structures with polished hardwood everywhere. The grounds are stunning and the staff gracious but I may never go back…

I woke up in the middle of the night with the overwhelming sense of a presence in the room. Something was trying to either get very close to me or possess me. I was in a frozen half sleep state. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t talk. My husband was mere feet away and I couldn’t tell him I needed help.

I silently screamed “not welcome” until the feeling went away. I like to tell myself I don’t believe in ghosts and the experience was a dream remnant (after all I have vivid dreams all the time). I like to tell myself that so I can sleep.”

  3. Hi – I am interested in using the image of the dead wasp in your “Regicide, Thwarted.” blog… I want to use Kickstarter to create an environmentally friendly way to be very unfriendly to wasps and like that photo 😉

Just wondering where you got the image from, so I can obtain the proper permissions/licenses.

    Thanks,
    Dave.
